Summary
The Head of Engineering will be responsible for overseeing HBAR's core engineering function, ensuring the successful delivery of software and infrastructure projects in line with and in support of overall strategy. They will be effective individual contributors while also leading a team of engineers to architect, implement and maintain core technical infrastructure, deliver and enhance internal products, and work with external vendors, service providers and auditors as needed.
Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering team, recruiting new staff into an existing team and transforming them into a high-performing, cohesive team
- Oversee the planning, architecture, execution, and delivery of engineering initiatives in a hybrid multi-cloud and managed service infrastructure, ensuring the optimal balance of time, scope, quality and budget
- Be a hands-on contributor, as well as providing technical guidance and mentorship to the engineering team
- Implement robust and extensible ancillary tooling and infrastructure to build, test, release, monitor and scale products and infrastructure - with a key focus on automation
- Work with the Technical Product Manager to deliver on the technical product roadmap
- Work with the SecOps team to deploy defensive tooling and platforms focusing on security, monitoring and observability
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience in an engineering leadership role, preferably as a Head of Engineering, Engineering Director or CTO
- Vast hands-on experience in software development, systems architecture, and hybrid cloud infrastructure
- Proven data analytics ability, including working with 1st- and 3rd-party structured and unstructured data, including warehousing, ETL, pipelines, storage management, retention and data governance
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail with a strategic growth mindset
- Experience in delivering projects using in an Agile manner with limited resources
- People skills - able to build relationships within all levels of the organization and a natural consensus builder
- Detail-oriented yet able to multitask in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
- Manages uncertainty flexibly and calmly
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience building and running DevOps pipelines and managing DevOps resources
- Skilled in development frameworks and API design
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Bonus Skills
- Good understanding of algorithms, data structures and optimization techniques - especially in a distributed microservices environment
- Experience with databases - both SQL and otherwise - including sharded, replicated clusters
- Familiarity with DLT and Blockchain, and how to work with network data on the read path
- Previous Web3 Experience, in particular working with and troubleshooting Hedera services
- Experience in the broader EVM and blockchain/cryptocurrency landscape
- Familiarity with Salesforce, including bespoke Apex-based functionality, services and solutions
