Job Description

This role will be Day Shift, 7:00am-3:00pm, M-F.

The Fairport Vinyl Compounding Team Leader is responsible for facilitating the current 24/5 Vinyl Compounding team including daily staffing, scheduling, distribution of tasks, resources, and communication of department needs to satisfy demand. The Team Leader will provide leadership and direction that will promote safe work practices and improve quality, efficiency, productivity, and visibility within vinyl compounding. This Team leader will be primarily working in process as a compounding operator to support the F5 Casting line and vinyl demand.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Activities and duties may vary depending upon specific needs. Essential functions may include, but are not limited to:

  • Working in vinyl compounding supporting the department demands.

  • Ensure department alignment on all environmental, health and safety procedures, practices and policies.

  • Facilitate with the operators the schedule and plan to meet department demands.

  • Ensure adherence to the production schedule and escalating process upsets.

  • Load raw materials and set up machines, requiring a high level of precision.

  • Adjust setup and process operations accordingly.

  • Accurately compound raw material batches while ensuring adherence to production / process specifications or instructions.

  • Perform tests and check products routinely for multiple characteristics using standard measuring devices.

  • Monitor and verify quality standards in accordance with established procedure and maintain accurate records.

  • Ensure a clean and orderly compounding area.

  • Accurately complete batch sheet reports and other production records or logs.

  • Perform and develop general maintenance (PMs) and safety checklists as required to ensure effective operations.

  • Ensure department health and reliability by driving Maintenance Work Orders to completion.

  • Responsible for labeling, handling, and transporting of hazardous and non-hazardous materials and waste.

  • Communicate effectively with team members and staff.

  • Tracks and provides feedback to the Manager on Team Member’s performance, and participates in Team Member Performance Review meetings.

  • Promote and facilitate the personal development of Team members by identifying the need for training and provide training.

  • Make certain that all employees are following the Standard Operating Procedures and training instructions.

  • Lead the efforts to identify the root cause and put preventative actions in place for quality and safety related issues.

  • Work closely with other Production Team Members and managers to provide consistent expectations and drive continuous improvement.

  • Lead the 5-S, housekeeping, ELS projects and recycling programs.

  • Collaborate with other functional areas to resolve problems and develop improved manufacturing processes.

  • Reduce manufacturing waste and process complexity.

  • Assign personnel responsibilities and ensure teamwork among everyone on the shift to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime on production equipment.

  • Support the site “0 is Achievable” goal and teach team members how to.

  • Develop strong communication/relationship within all functions of the facility.

  • Support ISO Document updates whenever changes may or are needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).

  • 2+ years directly related experience.

  • Thoroughly knowledgeable in the area(s) assigned.

  • Strong ability to lead, train and coach a diverse team of individuals performing a variety of tasks.

  • Strong customer focus necessary.

  • Familiarity with ELS Operating Principles.

  • Ability to think ahead, anticipate problems, make decisions and take appropriate action.

  • Good coordination, planning, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Operational knowledge of applicable systems.

Preferred Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing in a similar production environment.

  • Experience supporting and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Project management and time management skills.

  • Track record of implementing Lean manufacturing processes.

  • Strong knowledge and being able to work with computers and programs (Oracle, Telnet, MES/FasTrack, Google Docs, AODocs).

  • Willingness to act as an additional manufacturing resource by taking a hands-on approach to day-to-day production activities.

  • Must regard safety as a core value; must serve as a role model for other employees and encourage adherence to safety practices, policies and procedures.

  • Must be able to actively contribute in a team based environment, encourage open communication and positive interaction with peers and management to effectively reach a common goal.

  • Must have a strong service and quality focus, be able to address issues effectively when problems arise, and take initiative to understand root cause then communicate/educate the team in a timely manner.

  • Must have demonstrated a record of flexibility and dependability in order to support production and customer focus.

  • Must have a strong detail orientation and be able to follow written and oral instruction.

  • Time Management skills and ability to work independently.

  • Must have a valid fork-lift license.
