ABOUT AVERY DENNISON Fastener Solutions

The Fastener Solutions business unit of Avery Dennison is a worldwide manufacturer of plastic fastening systems used in the automotive, apparel, retail, industrial and packaging industries. Our three-shift injection molding and extrusion operation is located in Fitchburg, MA. The Fastener Solutions business unit is ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 certified.

ABOUT YOUR ROLE

Avery Dennison is seeking a Technical Manager to lead, develop, and drive the engineering team to improve process reliability, technology advancement, and support improvement projects for our Fastener Solutions business in Fitchburg, MA. With mentorship and leadership from the Operations Manager, you will lead a team of process engineers sought at providing support and efficiency improvements to the site.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

Activities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Safety: Promote safety as the most important value in the organization by contributing through training, project management and other EHS responsibilities.

  • Lead, develop, and coach the Manufacturing Engineering team to improve process reliability, technology advancement, and support continuous improvement projects.

  • Establishes and submits processing requirements to be met in designing and acquiring processing equipment.

  • Collaborate with other plants/divisions to identify and implement operational best practices.

  • Lead capital project planning, communication, and execution to achieve time, cost, and results targets. Examples include scoping, purchase and validation of new equipment such as injection molding machines, automation, material handling systems.

  • Manage/control cost center and capital project portfolio to achieve targeted results.

  • Apply rigorous observation and analytical tools to identify and execute projects focused on safety, quality, operating cost, productivity, and fulfillment of customer expectations.

  • Lead/facilitate/collaborate with other functions to ensure project objectives are aligned with division and plant objectives.

  • Supports business process management methodologies such as ISO/IATF-16949. Leads compliance to PPAP’s and APQP procedures.

  • Design and/or improve on internal project management processes.

  • Assess, select, and manage external contractors for project and service requirements.

  • Member of plant leadership team with leadership responsibilities both within primary function and beyond.

  • Develop Injection molding tooling and process comprehension within the Manufacturing Engineering and other functional teams.

  • Provide training, mentoring, performance planning, and feedback to develop direct reports and others.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering field. Preferred in chemical or mechanical engineering.

  • 8+ years experience in Injection Molding plant operation/engineering. Preferred 5+ years of experience in leadership role

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, ability to influence and motivate others to excel.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and projects concurrently in a dynamic factory environment.

  • Ability to work with others in a team environment. Actively promote collaboration & teamwork and resolve conflicts.

  • Ability and willingness to adjust schedule to support 24/7 operations.

  • Strong organization and computer skills - Google,

  • Solid modeling familiarity (Preferably SolidWorks or Unigraphics/NX)

  • Results driven with a focus on consistent improvement. Organized and logical with ability to prioritize and sort complex problems moving to root cause and final resolution.

  • Preferred: Exposure to Six Sigma or Lean Methodologies (Blackbelt/Greenbelt).

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering.

  • Leadership experience and capability in lieu of degree may be considered.
