Job Description
The Buyer will report to the Service, Materials & Logistics Manager. This position will have an operational focus with emphasis on customer service. The Buyer will manage transactional activities related to the purchase and delivery of assigned commodities, goods, and services. This position requires significant communication and coordination with Operations, Supply Chain, inventory control, and Finance. The Buyer will continually work to improve internal customer service while ensuring security of supply and favorably impacting total cost of ownership of purchased products and services.
General and Task Management:
⦁ Purchase goods, materials, components or services in line with specified cost, quality and delivery targets
⦁ Ensure continuous supply of required goods and materials and communicate any supply problems which may pose a risk or impact on business operations
⦁ Monitor market trends, competitor strategies and market suppliers
⦁ Research and evaluate areas of opportunity and reduce costs where possible
⦁ Deliver updates and reports as and when required
⦁ Develop creative and innovative procurement processes
⦁ Develop ideas and strategies to improve operational efficiency, add value, aid business performance and work towards a strategy of continuous improvement
⦁ Assess and evaluate suppliers and undertake performance reviews to ensure contract compliance and manage performance improvement activities
⦁ Ensure that a professional and consistent approach is taken in relation to all supplier relationships
⦁ Explore alternate sources with corporate procurement team for goods and materials
⦁ Prepare purchase orders in line with final negotiations with selected suppliers and in line with organizational targets and requirements
⦁ Contact suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery or invoice issues
Relationship Management:
⦁ Work collaboratively and negotiate and engage with stakeholders and suppliers regarding new projects, supplies and initiatives and advise of impact of change on purchasing and production activities
⦁ Stay current and up to date on any changes that may affect the supply and demand of needed products and materials and advise others of any impact
⦁ Attend meetings and update others on issues or concerns, in particular when there is a risk which could prevent the organization meeting customer demands or where there are over capacity concerns
⦁ Support product change requests and review and communicate the impact on capacity plans
⦁ Build, maintain and manage supplier relationships and ensure good communications
Other activities may include, but are not limited to:
⦁ Health & Safety: Consistently work in a safe manner with regard to self, co-workers, and manufacturing systems.
⦁ Perform general housekeeping tasks and waste removal within department/group and assists other areas as required.
⦁ ELS: Continuously review current processes and search out improvement methods to improve product/process quality and reduce waste, rework, and unnecessary work that adds no value to the work or process.
⦁ Support safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.
⦁ Teamwork: Assist and support other team members in meeting department and site goals. Participate and share in performing all tasks necessary to run the facility. Contribute and participate in team decision-making. Provide support in project work and other special requests.
Qualifications
Education:
⦁ Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Supply Chain Management
Experience:
⦁ 3+ years previous Purchasing, Supply Chain, or related experience is required.
⦁ Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with all functions and levels of the organization
⦁ Results oriented focus and ability to take ownership to resolve issues.
⦁ Flexibility and willingness to initiate change.
⦁ High customer focus: ability to proactively identify and meet customer needs.
⦁ Ability to interface with cross-functional groups to define and execute overall
requirements.
⦁ Ability to use ELS problem solving tools to identify root cause. (A3 Thinking)
⦁ Ability to work well with all levels of management and employees.
⦁ Familiarity in process documentation and improvement.
⦁ Oracle experience preferred
⦁ APICS certification preferred.
